Why a plant needs more than a headcount

Plants are where agency work concentrates in Québec. In a 2012 survey of 1,000 agency workers done for the Commission des normes du travail, manufacturing was their most common assignment sector, at 20%. Montréal's public health director also found that, in Greater Montréal from 2005 to 2012, agency workers' accepted work injuries led to longer compensation: 107 days on average, against 97 for other workers. A temp who starts without a site induction is a safety question, not only a staffing one. [6]

Before the first shift on your floor: who does what

Québec splits the duties toward agency workers between the agency and you, the client business. This table separates what the law expects from what Aukazi does in practice. Numbers in brackets point to the sources at the bottom of the page.

Check the agency's CNESST permitWho: YouIn practice: Ask for the permit number and look it up in the CNESST public registry before the first shift. This applies to every agency and staffing app, Aukazi included. [1][2]
Health and safety of the assigned workerWho: You and the agencyIn practice: Both must make sure the employer obligations of Québec's occupational health and safety act are met, and the agency can't transfer or limit them by contract. Agree in writing who gives the site safety induction and the protective equipment before the first shift. [3]
Count agency workers in your headcountWho: YouIn practice: Workers lent by an agency count when you work out the number of workers in your establishment. Since 1 October 2025, establishments with 20 or more workers need a prevention program, and smaller ones an action plan. [3][4]
Same rate for the same workWho: The agencyIn practice: The agency can't pay an assigned worker a lower hourly rate than your employees doing the same tasks in the same establishment only because of their employment status. Share the rates for the roles you book. [5]
Amounts owed to the workerWho: You and the agencyIn practice: The agency and the client business are jointly liable for amounts owed to agency workers under the Act respecting labour standards, such as unpaid wages. [1]
Training for the assignmentWho: The agencyIn practice: The agency can't charge the worker fees for the assignment or for training. Aukazi provides onboarding and training assistance for your site and roles. [5]
Readiness before the shiftWho: AukaziIn practice: Workers are vetted before their first shift. Before each shift, Aukazi shows confirmed coverage and site familiarity based on workers' prior shifts at your site.
On the floor and after the shiftWho: AukaziIn practice: Supervisors see in the Supervisors App who has arrived, who is late and where each worker is assigned, and request backup for a no-show. Every worker is rated after the shift, and those ratings feed future matching.

When to use someone else

If you need certified machine operators, maintenance mechanics, electricians or other trades, or a permanent production supervisor or plant manager, an industrial recruiter is the better choice. Aukazi is built for shift-based floor roles: assembly, packaging, loading and general labour.

Questions employers ask

Does Aukazi staff manufacturing plants in Montréal?

Yes. Light industrial and manufacturing is one of the five industries Aukazi serves, with roles like assembly, packaging, loading and general labour. Aukazi is headquartered in Montréal and serves 100+ locations across Canada.

How fast can you cover a production shift?

Aukazi fills 98% of shifts within 24 hours. That is a fill rate, not a guarantee for every last-minute request, so book planned shifts earlier when you can.

Who is responsible for safety when an agency worker is on our floor?

In Québec, both of you. The agency and the client business must each make sure the occupational health and safety obligations are met, and the agency can't contract them away. The table on this page sums up who does what.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. No long-term contract is required, and you can scale workers up or down with your production volume.
